Tomato List 2011
All our tomato plants are grown in limited quantities, so it is essential to order early. We will grow to order for you if we know your requirements by March 1st
DESCRIPTION
WE HAVE SPLIT THE VARIETIES INTO BEEFSTEAK, SALAD AND CHERRY SECTIONS THIS YEAR BUT WOULD ASK THAT YOU CONSIDER ALL OF THEM NOT JUST WHAT YOU'RE USED TO. I HOPE YOU ENJOY READING AND SELECTING!
BEEFSTEAK TOMATOES - Please do not dismiss the enormous delights of beefsteak toms! The flavour is usually far richer and more complex than salad or cherry tomatoes and for my money they are better for making sauces and for cooking in general if you do not grow a specific cooking tom.
Black from Tula - mid season
Considered on of the best of all the black tomatoes. Flattened round beefsteak tomatoes.
Cherokee Purple - pinch
Huge purple-pink fruit, sweet, fleshy and flavourful. Better in a greenhouse.
Purple Calabash - mid season, pinch
Wierd pleated and puckered beefsteak tomatoes with rich flavour and purple/burgundy colour This has proved to be one of the most popular and productive toms I sell. Good yield even in last years abysmal weather.
Sasha Altai - early, pinch
Round red fruits, a small beefsteak, sweet and juicy.
Silvery Fir - early, bush
Very decorative foliage, lots of orange red fruit, small beefsteak, delicious. Compact enough for the patio in a pot.
Southern Nights - mid season
Compact plants with rich, sweet fruits in a blackish red colour
SALAD TOMATOES - Frequently overlooked in favour of cherry toms but still with a place in the garden and on the plate! Not all salad toms are round - or red - but all my selection have that true tomato taste.
Aurora - early, bush.
Small round red fruits, an excellent tomato.
Black Ethiopian - mid season, big bush
One of my favourite tomatoes, beautiful plum romatoes with a rich flavour and not black but more mahogany red.
Black Prince - mid season
Very sweet round fruits with pointed ends, dark purple/brown/red colour.
Black Star - mid season
The usual rich fruity flavour one gets with most ‘black’ tomatoes, inside the flesh is green! What a contrast. Nice round tomatoes.
Glacier - early, bush. Orange red fruits set well even in cold weather, sweet flavour.
Kootenai - bush. Compact plants, long season, juicy,
red salad tomatoes.
Muscat - mid season, pinch
Magnificent fine flavoured salad tomatoes, long season.
Moneymaker -mid season, pinch
Good traditional variety, productive, easy.
Nectar - mid season, pinch
Excellent flavoured red salad tomatoes.
Stupice - early, bush
Blight resistant, large bush with good red tomatoes with excellent flavour
CHERRY TOMATOES - Frequently the easiest and definately the most popular tomatoes for any garden. The selection below aims to combine easy growth, loads of fruit and really good flavour, plus look out for the varieties to grow in hanging baskets!
Black Cherry
Productive, vigorous cherry tomato with dark brown/purple fruits.
Buissonante - bush & basket
Lots of sweet red cherry toms over a long season
Gardener’s Delight - big bush, early
An old favourite with masses of sweet, cherry tomatoes,
bright red, long season.
Gartenperle - bush, pot or basket
Masses of large cherry tomatoes over a long season
Jelly Bean - large bush
Masses of those very popular small plum tomatoes but with a far better flavour than the ones you buy commercially
Maskotka - bush, pot or basket
New to me but comes highly recommended for both yield and flavour. Strong chains probably best if in a basket!
